If all goes as plan this is the last time I will be writing a blog with a gallbladder ... odd, I know, but quite true. I've been laying around waiting for surgery since Monday evening.
I've been quite sick since last week after I had friends over for dinner. I thought it was some sort of silly bug that would go away. However, even when my headache kind of went away, the fever kept up - even when I was on constant advil or tylenol. Then I was nauseous too! I figured it was just from not enough food (too hot to feel hungry) with all the fever reducers I was taking though ... but when I finally made myself really eat Sunday night, I thought I was going to die!
I went to see a doctor Monday near my apartment who was definitely great, but he mentioned trying one route and that if the symptoms came back that I'd need bloodwork and an ultrasound to check out my stomach/gallbladder/liver area. Hearing that, I just went home knowing my family doctor in South Jersey could run most basic bloodwork and just get that out of the way. By the end of the day I had bloodwork, an ultrasound and then was told to admit myself to the hospital before I was even home from having the tests done. Uh!
The gist is that I was told maybe immediate surgery was needed Monday, then I was NPO'ed (no food or liquids) since Monday night until last night because maybe I was getting it sometime yesterday, then I was allowed a 4 hr window for clear liquids (which includes jello???) before I was to be NPO'ed for today ... and then a nurse woke me up today with the "good news" I could eat because nothing would be done until tomorrow.
Being the stubborn, justice-seeking person I am though, I refused to eat in determination of definitely having surgery today. I'm in pain, you know the problem, fix it! That's not unreasonable. AND it worked! Surgery was to be at 3:30 today due to how upset I was (and refusal to eat, I believe hehehe) ... until my stupid, stupid bloodwork came back and some liver level the surgeon was worried about was no better. He wanted a consult which could not be done in time for 3:30 this afternoon (darn it!). He was more than kind when he FINALLY came to talk to me and said he just wanted to be fully prepared because that one level could mean that even if my gallbladder was removed that I wouldn't be out of pain and I'd need more surgery. So, tomorrow morning, consult or not, with the extra night to get bloodwork and check that one level, I WILL have my surgery. Hopefully, it'll be simple too, only 3 little incisions, will take about an hour and I could be home tomorrow night! If things are more extensive, they'll have to actually cut me open pretty extensively though (something like a 6 inch incision!).
If it's not one thing, it's another ...
